Bishop Lou Tylka

Bishop Lou Tylka, born on May 26, 1970, in Harvey, Illinois, has dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church. His journey in the priesthood began on May 18, 1996, when he was ordained in the Archdiocese of Chicago. In the early years of his ministry, Bishop Tylka served as an Associate Pastor at St. Michael Parish in Orland Park, Illinois, from 1996 to 2003.

Continuing his mission as a priest, Bishop Tylka took on the role of Associate Pastor at Ss. Faith, Hope, and Charity in Winnetka, Illinois, from 2003 to 2004. In 2004, Bishop Tylka assumed the role of Pastor at Mater Christi and the Shrine of Mary, Mother of Mothers, in North Riverside, Illinois. He became the Pastor of St. Julie Billiart Parish in Tinley Park, Illinois, in 2014. A year later, he was appointed as the Chair of the Presbyteral Council for the Archdiocese of Chicago, a position he held from 2015 to 2020.

On May 11, 2020, Bishop Tylka was appointed as the Coadjutor Bishop-elect of the Peoria Diocese in Peoria, Illinois. He was consecrated to the episcopacy on July 23, 2020 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria, Illinois. This sacred ceremony marked his elevation to the rank of bishop and his readiness to lead the faithful in the Diocese of Peoria. On March 6, 2022, Bishop Lou Tylka celebrated his first public Mass as the 9th Bishop of Peoria.
